New collaboration leverages Onfido’s physical document proofing capabilities to provide real-time digital passport and drivers’ license verification.
Today, we announced a partnership with SecureKey Technologies Inc., a leader in identity and authentication solutions. Benefitting from the expertise of two industry leaders, the forthcoming offering will combine Onfido’s physical identity document verification and AI expertise with the real-time authentication and verification capabilities that SecureKey offers over the coming months.
“We’re thrilled to leverage Onfido’s best-in-class technology as a complement to our existing technology stack. Our partnership demonstrates positive market movement towards a more secure digital future for consumers,” said Greg Wolfond, CEO, SecureKey Technologies. “At SecureKey, we believe strong, privacy-based digital identity requires the collaboration of multiple players and are pleased to continue our track record of developing market-leading digital identity services and offerings alongside like-minded organizations. We’re excited to plan our global expansion, using our digital identity services as interoperable solutions across markets.”
This enhanced offering is unique in its breadth, it will allow users to scan their physical identity documents, such as passports or drivers’ licenses, and have other personal information verified in real-time from trusted sources, such as financial institutions, credit bureaus, telecommunication companies and government. By bringing together the strengths of these different parties and leveraging the combination of financial institution and telecommunication-grade credential login and document validation, this solution is the critical next step to increase the digital capabilities globally by making identity verification more secure and safe for all consumers.
Onfido’s award-winning technology assesses whether a user’s government-issued physical identity documents are genuine or fraudulent, drawing upon unique expertise in over 2,500 document types from 195 countries, before comparing against facial biometrics. Comparisons are drawn between selfies and physical identity documents to ensure users are who they say they are. To draw these comparisons, Onfido uses an AI hybrid approach. The first available documents to be authenticated in this forthcoming offering will be passports and drivers’ licences, with provincial healthcare and residency cards expected to follow.
“At Onfido, our mission is to create a more open world, where identity is the key to access. SecureKey clearly shares this same drive to build a more secure landscape where customers can have privacy, security and consent all in one easy-to-use process,” said Husayn Kassai, CEO, Onfido. “We’re excited to watch how our technology will continue to make customers’ lives easier within the SecureKey networks and bring the future of digital identity closer.”
