Shopopop partners with Onfido to power remote identity verification for home delivery service

September 5, 2022 Laura Noye

Onfido, the global identity verification and authentication provider, today announces a strategic partnership with Europe's leading home delivery service, Shopopop, which can now verify the identity of its couriers remotely with a significantly reduced turnaround time and a frictionless user experience.

Shopopop mobilises a community of 450,000 couriers and shoppers who take advantage of their daily journeys (such as school drop-offs, shopping and work commutes) to pick up neighbours' online purchases from drives and local shops before delivering them. Since its creation, the platform has organised more than 3 million deliveries for 2,200 partner shops linked to mass retail and convenience stores including, Carrefour, E.Leclerc, Conforama, Jeff de Bruges, Biocoop, Monceau Fleurs, and others.

With this partnership, Onfido provides best-in-class identity verification services using its AI-powered technology for fraud detection, customer acquisition and to help reduce operational costs. Couriers simply take a picture of their identity document (ID) using their smart device. Onfido's AI-enhanced technology performs a verification analysis of the presented document in real time to assess its authenticity, thus helping to combat identity fraud. This automated process not only reduces the verification time but also improves the overall user experience, making the process much smoother and more secure.

The announcement of this partnership comes shortly after Onfido announced the launch of its Real Identity Platform, which aims to reduce the complexity of managing multiple sources and vendors of identity verification solutions to meet regulatory Know Your Customer (KYC) obligations while simplifying the process of mitigating fraud risk in an increasingly global marketplace.

Shopopop chose to partner with the Onfido platform because of its SDK (Software Development Kit), its user experience, its document coverage (more than 2,500 types of identity documents in 195 countries) and its scalability, which means it can handle large volumes in case of high demand. This alliance allows Shopopop to improve its fraud protection system, but also to acquire new users while reducing customer acquisition costs.

"It is now possible to have your goods delivered by shoppers in more than 16,000 towns and cities in mainland France," says Johan Ricaut of Shopopop. "We are delighted to be able to leverage Onfido's technology which allows automated verification of our couriers identity documents while using human experts to check for inconsistent data. More and more French people are turning to collaborative delivery to reduce the cost of regular journeys. In order to continue to be democratised, it must be integrated into the daily lives of our users in the most fluid and natural way possible. This partnership allows us to strengthen the relationship with our shoppers and to make the deliveries we organise even more secure.”

"Our AI-powered verification solution helps to automate ID verification at account opening. We are proud to partner with Shopopop to help streamline the identity verification process, detect fraud, and satisfy regulatory requirements," says Augustin de Pelleport, Account Executive SEMEA at Onfido.
