Eight years after founding Onfido with my amazing co-founders Husayn and Ruhul, the time has come: I'm going to step away from the company to take a career break.
It's been a journey. I've worked with the most brilliant team I could ever have imagined. We built this company from the ground up into a 400-person strong market leader in identity verification and authentication. I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished and know there’s SO much more to come.
It’s definitely hard to step away, but the timing feels right. We’re in such a strong position and I feel comfortable letting the team spread their wings without me.
What's next for me? I’m going to take a short break to recharge my batteries, and then I’m going to spend a bit of time helping a cause close to my heart. I’ve been a supporter of the incredible Al-Ayn Foundation for a few years; they currently serve around 60,000 orphaned children in Iraq. I’ll be helping the charity grow and scale effectively, as well as supporting a specific project to build a series of housing units for orphans and their guardians in the city of Hilla.
I shared this news with the Onfido team earlier today. It was really difficult. I don’t know when I’ll be back, or if I’ll be back at all, but I’m excited for this next chapter.
PS - this photo is from 2013, back in the days when you were allowed to fit 5 people into a 2m x 1.5m room and call it your ‘office’...
