Onfido wins Mayor’s International Business Programme Award for Highest Investment

London-based tech company takes prize for significant growth both at home and abroad

Onfido has been awarded the title for Highest Investment by the Mayor’s International Business Programme. In their inaugural year, the awards shine a spotlight on the companies achieving the most success since joining the programme, which aims to help London’s fastest growing companies become global success stories.

Presented by London Deputy Mayor Rajesh Agrawal, the award recognised Onfido’s rapid growth and success not just in the UK, but in the USA - now the company’s fastest growing market. Founded in 2012 by CEO Husayn Kassai, COO Eamon Jubbawy and CTO Ruhul Amin, then new graduates from Oxford University, Onfido has since grown to a team of 145 across offices in London, San Francisco and Lisbon. The company secured Series B funding totalling $25 million for its machine-learning based software solution early last year, with investors including Salesforce Ventures, CrunchFund and Idinvest Partners.

The Mayor’s International Business Programme provides a bespoke mentoring scheme to London-based businesses in the technology, life sciences and urban sectors. Onfido CEO Husayn Kassai visited India on a Trade Mission as a part of the programme in late 2016, alongside other fast-growing businesses including Yoyo Wallet, Screendragon and Luxtripper.

Husayn Kassai, CEO at Onfido, said: “It’s a real joy to see Onfido’s success both at home and abroad has been recognised, and I’m proud to be representing the UK as a part of the Mayor’s International Business Programme. Having just come from the US and experienced all of its current unrest, there's never been a clearer sign that not only is London open for business, but that the Mayor's office in particular is here to encourage young companies every step of the way. What we're doing at Onfido is truly a team-wide effort; I’m grateful for and honoured by all of their hard work, and the support we’ve received from this wonderful city”.

The accolade follows a string of titles for Onfido in 2016, including Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Tech Business of the Year and Sage Startups Business of the Year at the Startups.co.uk Awards, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Co-Founder and COO Eamon Jubbawy at the Digital Entrepreneur Awards.
