Celebrating International Women’s Day 2022

March 8, 2022 Paul Jarratt

Today is International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • Celebrate women's achievements
  • Raise awareness about women's equality
  • Lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • Fundraise for female-focused charities

Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias

The theme this year is #BreakingtheBias.

“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”

Here at Onfido, we're celebrating throughout the entire month of March to highlight the amazing achievements and insights of Onfido women and to bring awareness to the work that is still to be done to promote equity and fairness in the workplace.

One of our key initiatives is our work with UPFRONT, a learning program designed to uplift women through targeted confidence building at work.

~30 Onfido women completed this program, resulting in 20% of attendees being promoted within the first year. Additionally, there were three nominations and two finalists for industry accolades, including the Women in Tech Excellence awards and a number recognized for internal company awards.

Here’s what the Onfido participants said about the program:

“I got a promotion, have been placed on much higher profile projects and have been gradually becoming more confident in confrontational situations, something I avoided like the plague in the past.”

“UPFRONT helped me quiet my imposter syndrome overall and control it when it does pop up.”

“Professionally, I've definitely become more confident at work - speaking up more and voicing my opinions in team meetings, and putting myself forward for presentations and speaking opportunities.”

Fireside chat with Lauren Currie

Today, on International Women’s Day we’re pleased to welcome Lauren Currie, founder of UPFRONT, hosting an up close and personal conversation with Onfido's Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Nancy Vance

Lauren’s work has been featured in The Guardian, Design Week, and Creative Review. She was awarded an OBE for her services to design and diversity. She’s been named “woman changing the world under 30” by ELLE magazine, “one of the UK’s top business women under 35” by Management Today, and "one of the UK's top 50 Creative Leaders" by Creative Review.

In this conversation we plan to explore confidence barriers, imposter syndrome and so much more facing women in the workplace today.

If you’d like to take part or learn more about Lauren’s innovative work, you can attend her Breaking the Confidence Barrier event today at 2pm GMT.

Finally, over the coming days, we’ll be posting a number of interviews with Onfido women discussing their career paths, the obstacles they’ve overcome as women in tech and calls to action for companies to break the bias on the path to gender equity.

Get involved in the #BreakTheBias campaign

We’re crossing our arms to show solidarity and bring awareness.
